Those Magnificent Men

We all know the song Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines from the film of the same name and also the Cartoon Wacky Races Watching a Tiger Moth flying around the other day put me in mind of it and thinking of Sky Watch I popped indoors and got my camera and telephoto lens. The plane was flying somewhere the other side of the village so quite far away but you could easily watch their aerobatics and I managed to get a few shots for you. I have cropped the photos a little to show the plane a little clearer

After spotting the plane flying somewhere over near the river I went off and got my camera and zoom lens

The guy had been throwing the plane around a bit but it did not come that much nearer to where I was

Went over in a bit of an inverted loop

Then started climbing for a loop

Upside down

Defying the ground

Around he comes

Turns away

Off back he goes

Growing in the Garden

This week I'm back in the greenhouse and was quite happy that things were ripening well

A few tomatoes are ripening

Ready to eat

along with a  cucumber

Something beat me to this.

Outside near the fence are more tomatoes, growing well

Rubber beans, well runner beans these did better that I thought and we had a good feed of them with Sunday dinner

This is an experiment. I had wanted to get some spuds to grow but they had sold out when I asked so as the ones we had in the house were starting to sprout I popped a few in this trug. Tow grew one I think gave up. I really do not know how they will turn out

This is a bit of a miss mash of rhubarb and tomato plants I did not have the heart to throw away.
The rhubarb was on its last legs and when I put in in here it thrived. On of the tomatoes was a sucker of the ones in the greenhouse

Around the back of the greenhouse are a few more tomatoes growing in a sun trap.

The first few photos were taken a while ago the tomatoes and cucumber went in sandwiches. look though the greenhouse window and you see more tomatoes growing and a nice cucumber

Look through the door and you see a few more tomatoes ripening.

This week the Church Explorer returns to Islip to visit St Nicholas Church where I got to look around inside and found a beautiful church to look around

Odd Clouds

This week some odd looking clouds I  spotted

I thought the bigger one looked like bowser from Super Mario with a vultures head above him

Or maybe an ugly ducking with feet behind

They started to stretch out

The duck got thin and the vulture lost it's neck

Then a little later I noticed they had morphed into one

Islip Village

I visited the village last month to go to the church you see in the background. The village is reportedly the birth place of Edward the Confessor the last Anglo Saxon King of England he died in 1066 which heralded the invasion of England by the Normans. Edward is supposed to have been baptised in the church you see

Looking across the church green to the church with some stocks awaiting miscreants

On the way through the churchyard to the church you see this thatched cottage, I showed some photos of the work being don on it

After going back the car I took some photos down  the village, this way takes you back to Oxford

Looking the other way the road will take you to Charlton on Otmoor

I went back a second time to get photos in the church and noticed the Thatcher working away on the part shown in the photo I showed a moment ago

He was fitting the last bits of thatch to the roof before fixing the ridge in place

I parked up at the village hall second time

Where above the door is a mosaic of Edward the Confessor. The village halls also doubles as a store and post office

Nearby some of the history can be seen in the playground, a Saxon knight with shield guarding the longboat. The could well have visited the village in one as the place is on the River Ray which flows in to the River Cherwell and that flows into the Thames at Oxford (River Isis)

Nearby is another knight with the church in the background. If you visit the Church Explorer this weekend you will see inside. Take care everyone

I have added a subscribe by Email for those of you who would rather do it get the posts that way so as I deleted the old feedburner one. This one does work as I have been useing it to get feed form another blog of mine

St Mary Charleton on Otmoor

This week the Church Explorer takes you to Charlton on Otmoor and St Mary's Church which is outside Oxford. This is a charming church which I was lucky to also get to see inside thanks to the Church Warden noticing me in the churchyard

A short Walk

Just a couple of photo's this week from Wales when we were there last week. While taking the dog for a short walk I noticed the lake was clear and there was no people wandering around it, the seat looked like it was worth a photo

The seat waiting for some one to sit there and take in the view

A little further along we come to the start of the upward part and there was a blue sky with clouds chasing it away. I did not take much after that apart from the sheep which were covered in bracken that I showed on Wednesday
