The Thames at Goring

We all seem to be having our problems with the weather at the moment. Ice storm's over in Canada and high winds and rain here. People have been cut off without electricity in both country's over Christmas, hopefully this has now been sorted. A few days after Christmas I visited Goring to get some photos of a church and while I was there took some photos of the flooded Thames.

This is Goring lock from under the bridge
 Goring Bridge
This is the Thames looking towards Gatehampton. There is a young lady who wrote a blog and walked the path a few months ago, don't think she would want to try now
Remember the first photo, well this was what you were looking at.
I'll leave you with this photo of the Swan which on the Streatley side of the Thames. The Thames Path runs behind it. The pub was once owned by Danny La Rue though I never saw him there.  Happy New Year to you all and thanks for following my blog over the past year.

Wow - that's a lot of water! I guess I shouldn't be complaining about our lack of moisture here in Oregon.....but dang it, I want to ski! :) Happy New Year to you!

This year's Christmas will be one to remember, I'm sure. Glad to hear that you are safe. Most of my friends in Canada weren't affected, but some were. I can't imagine spending Christmas in the cold and dark. But I'm sure the memories created this year will be fun to look back on. :)

Those are incredible photos Bill. Picturesque though it must be living by the river, I think I would forego that to avoid the risk of flooding. The memories of walking along that section are still so vivid, as it was one of the most beautiful parts of the river. It looks as though the Swan must have been flooded, which is awful as they were just finishing the refurbishing when I was there in August.

It is a blessing to see those blue skies...albeit it is anything but that today. Horrible wind and rain. Take care and warmest best wishes to you for 2014!!!!

Lovely waetr shots. I'm a big fan of water, although I like to see it when it's less menacing than it has been of late (i.e. ice, heavy rains). ;) I wish you all the best in 2014!

Wow, that water really is way too high. It reminds me of growing up in Quincy Illinois a city on the Mississippi River. We saw floods every spring. Fortunately most of the town was high on bluff but, the farmers in the low lands got flooded every single year. I always wondered how they could stand to go through that year after year. Have a very happy new year!

Oh, by the way, I loved your roadrunner!

Interesting times on the planet right now. We're ending the year in a very bad drought situation, and there you have too much water. I remember the good old days of pleasant averages. Happy New Year to you and yours!

When we first moved in to our house back in 1986 we went through some bad powercuts and had a few cold nights. I don't miss them and feel sorry for people who go through this. Happy Ne Year

We have had floods like that for the last few years

I don't thinks I could handle living in a city and I am far enough away from the river not to have to worry. I think the pub was ok as the water did not get that high. Have a Happy New Year
