That is one long bridge! I just went and had a look at Trove to see newspaper reports. In addition to the 1879 tragedy, it was reported that 6 men drowned during the building of the bridge.

Sadder still when you see the original bases sticking out of the water.

I think a few died when they built the new road bridge in the 1970's down the river from this one.
