Coat of Arms

Took this photo in a St Mary's church Avington a few months ago and it's of a Royal Coat of arms from I think the 1700's when the church was built.

Not far away is this Funerary Hatchment  which is one of the best I have seen in a church yet

Kelmscott

A little wile ago I visited a place called Kelmscott , it is famous for being the home of William Morris. My fife has a liking for some of his designs as we have curtains made from the Strawberry Thief Fabric. Kelmscott is not an easy place to get to but it is worth the effort if you do.

Before going in the house we had a cup of tea on the lawn here

which is made in the small cafeteria here and most of it is home made

on the back wall you can see some of his designs
and in the garden a mulberry tree which gave him some of the inspiration.

No doubt he wandered round looking a all the plants

or even along here

The tree can be seen from the house through the windows

I doubt the roses along here were there then

but no doubt these wheels were on a cart at the house
and the apple trees which were in blossom
If you would like to see more of my trip to Kelmscott then visit my other Blog which is a bit more in depth . Taking part in Our World Tuesday

North Moreton Church

All Saints Church in North Moreton Oxfordshire is an old church that dates back to the 13th Century it has two altars and the first has this wonderful mosaic of the crucifixion

The mosaic is bordered by marble panels
but  the mosaic is very detailed

The second altar has three panels in it
That depict a couple of angles and the Lamb of God

Sky over Cefnlly's

For Our World Tuesday I showed Cefnlly's Castle  I could have also used it for Skywatch Friday but I thought lest show a couple of different views of the place .

The day before I went along with my wife to see how easy it was to climb the hill and took this photo. You can see a spot where it sticks up
This is the spot that stuck up, three people taking in the view, one even looks like he clocked me

After going down to the picnic area I looked up and got this view of the hill.

Fledgeling Sparrows

Cefnlly's Castle

A while ago I was asked if I had any photos of a place called Cefnlly's Castle I had to tell the person I did not but I had been near the place and would go back and get some photos. These are some of the photo's I took that day with my wife.

I took this the day before and realised it was not as easy as I thought so we came back the next day after I worked out a way to climb the hill.

This is the track we took at first along the side of the hill to get to the castle at the top. You can see my wife taking a photo of her own

She was taking photos of this area

This is where we had to get to, ended up going across the side of the hill near here as the track seemed to go to a farm and I did not want our dogs upsetting anyone

The top, the mound you see is the remains of the castle
Bit of a closer view of the castle

This looks back to the other end of the hill the second castle which was here once

You can see lots of mounds from the second castle which formed the ditches

Here we look across part of the hillside

This looks away from the top of the castle to some woods

This is St Michael s Church you can see at the bottom of the hill

View across the top of the hill to the second castle

below is a flock of sheep which are being rounded up by the dog

Another view from top of the castle hill

some of the surrounding countryside

and a shot as we went down

This is a stitched shot of the river below

and one of the top of Cefnlly's and the second castle
You can read more about it here
