Roman Mosaic

One of the exhibits at the British Museum was this show of early Christian remains from the Roman Empire found in Hinton St Mary Dorset

You should be able to blow this up and read it

  This was a wall painting

  A wall Fresco

Close up of the Fresco, Could not say if the last three were from Hinton St Mary but I thought they were amazing.

Chinese Mural

Another one from the British Museum, this one is a floor mosaic in the Chinese wing, I'd hate to think how old it is but you can still see the figures clearly

More Medieval Murals

Last month I visited five churches for my blog on the fourth  I was taken back when I walked in the church and saw these Medieval Murals

You can see them through the roof joists
Looking up at them from in the nave
Closer view
Not only high up in the church but also along the walls, this was the most clear of them

Changed the setting on the camera to take this one

I tried a couple hand held

but they did not come out so well

Nativity Scene

A month or so ago I was in a village called Wheatley near Oxford and visited a church called St Mary the Virgin I only had a Minuit or so inside the church as it was being closed up for the night but one of the things I was drawn to and the few photos I took was the backdrop on the altar. It was quite amazing, showing a nativity scene with the Three Kings

Another Bus Stop Mural

Passed this one many times when driving through Llandrindod Wells and finally one day managed to visit to get a few photos

The mural has seen better days and in need or revitalisation or better still a new mural

Looks like a hang out for the local hoodies from the scrawled graffiti

Four Saints

Last three photos from the Holy Trinity church in Llandrindod Wells. The first  two show the Saints which churches in the Benefice are named after and the third is a beautiful hanging that has been embroidered.

Small Mural

I showed the Mottisfont Angel  a couple of weeks ago this week I am showing a smaller mural from inside the house. It sits above the door beside these two magnificent paintings and is by part of the old chapel that used to be in the house.

You can read more on Mottisfont in my Blog

Corfe Castle Mural

Visited Corfe Castel with my wife on Saturday and while walking round the village I noticed a mural in a park shelter asking me to come over and get a few photos

The local kids pulled the picnic bench in

Ceiling shot

and a pano shot showing the whole mural.

Asylum Mural

This mural was on the wall of a ward in a derelict asylum which closed in 2003, the place has since been converted into flats so it no longer around. If you want to see more  of where it was then read about Faringdon Ward

Coat of Arms

Took this photo in a St Mary's church Avington a few months ago and it's of a Royal Coat of arms from I think the 1700's when the church was built.

Not far away is this Funerary Hatchment  which is one of the best I have seen in a church yet

All Change at the Bus Shelter

About a year ago I posted a mural which had been painted in a Bus Shelter . Just happened to be passing it a few weeks ago & noticed it had changed so 0n the way back I topped off and recaptured it. You can check out the old one in the Link.

Looks bright but not so appealing
 Lots of hands here
 Even more here
They even had foot prints on along with the hands name. Happy Monday

This is a small mosaic mural I spotted a the entrance to a church hall in Headington Oxford. Took me a while to realise it was a fish swimming through the weeds.
