Lancaster Flypast

Reading Felicity at Parsonage Cottage yesterday prompted me into showing these photos of a Lancaster Bomber  doing a flypast over a model exhibition that was happening at a local school

This Hurricane was restored to flying condition from a few parts  and was a common sight in the sky's round the area, it's now part of the Shuttleworth collection

I went to the show and was waiting like everyone else when the Lancaster fly over from behind us at tree top level causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand on end

It flew round a few times

Giving us a  wonderful sight

We had our own air show for a few moments

before it turned an flew off to a show in the next village at the place the Hurricane came from. I have to admire the people who managed to get the crew to detour for this. The Lancaster is part of the Battle of Britain Flight and together with the Hurricane & Spitfire they do fly past on occasion but not like this. One word summed it up Awesome

Lost Graffiti

I call it lost Graffiti because it is no more, a few years ago Network rail removed the bridge and built a new one to replace it  the graffiti went along with the brickwork, even the access road I am stood in has gone

The Village of Pembridge

These photos were taken quite few years ago when I was heading down to a Builth Wells to meet up with my wife. I had wanted to stop off at the village and on this occasion I did just that. Pembridge is a village situated on the A44 which is an old coach road not far from the Welsh border

These are  Duppa's Almshouses in Bridge Street, founded in 1661

I doubt the sign is that old but the wording could be

Ye Olde Steppes which I think used to be the post office

This is the Market Hall

where you can find an information board on it

This place is not as old as a lot of the other buildings but it did used to be a shop, & when I published it on Geograph a lady who used to live there emailed me to say thank you for showing it.

The market hall and the Kings house restaurant which used to be the Greyhound. The village also has a church called St Mary with a seperate belltower which I have written a blog on

Mural in a Pillbox

Taken a few years ago now but one of my projects is recording the remaining pillboxes from World War Two that formed the various defence lines left around the country. Two of the are in my region along the river Thames and River Kennet. This particular one is along the Kennet at Garston Lock. If I get the chance I look inside, this one had a door on which was locked but you could see through the embrasures.

It had obviously been abused in the past  from the graffiti on the outside

But inside the has painted some amazing work

The face on the wall just looked at you

And over near the door you could see Sylvester looking for Tweety. Sham I could not get more inside but what I saw impressed. The pillboxes on this stretch go a long way along the Kennet and I still have may to record but you can see some of what I did along the Thames here

Cherry Picker Sky

Spotted these cherry pickers  near the railway station car park the other day and thought they would make a great skywatch subject.

Last visit to Mottisfont

On our last visit to Mottisfont my wife & I felt it was a bit of a waste of time as most of the roses had either go over or balled from the rain we had in the previous weeks. I only took a few photos so I'll show a few today. If you want to see or previous visit click the link above.

Getting there early has its benefits as there are few people around

The sky at least had a few clouds but mostly sunshine

Some of the roses were in bloom like this Veilchenblau

Mind you I felt the high lite was seeing this Robin in the rose bush

I tried to go closer and it seemed OK

But it was not to be, the robin flew off and not long after so did we till our next visit

Pulpit Mural

I have only just managed to retrieve this photo I took back in 2012 in a Church near Buscot on the Thames. It's quite unique in that I have never seen one like it since. Unfortunately it is the only photo I have got of the pulpit but I hope to return for a few more photos when I get the chance. The quality is not brilliant as I took it hand held
