Steam Rally Part 2

Last week I showed some photos from a Steam Rally I went to with my wife, steam engines were not the only attraction as I will show you in this blog.

There were tractors

all sorts

from the Fordsons, ( I have driven one)

this might be an old MOD one

nice orange one

red ones which is a Nuffield

old ones

and even older ones

They had Indians

and lots of cowboys

hanging around though I'm not sure what he is up to with the gun
But the sheriff was around to keep order

Mind you the army was not far away, well some restorers were

stationary engines

fairground rides

trucks

even a six wheel drive one

quite a few classic cars

from big to small

to small. for you who do not know this is a Hilman Imp, came out the same time as a Mini

has to be one of the cars I always wanted a Astin Healey 3000

My wife has an affection for these which go under the nickname Peanuts. She owned and learned to drive in one
Pontiac Firebird
now the only this missing from the show was an Mini, I was gutted to find there were none there. Well that is what you can see at a local steam rally in the UK, might add this was the prelude to an even bugger one a week or so later at Woodcote not far away.

The Mottisfont Angel

I came across this mural while visiting Mottisfont , the mural is a mosaic and made in the corner of  what was part of the old priory chapel. The Priory & Chapel was converted into a home during Tudor times and parts of the chapel can be seen.

  The whole mosaic

This part looks like it could have been tricky to do

Steam Rally

One of the things I do love seeing is a steam engine and in my area we are lucky to have a few steam rallys. One local one is called the Stoke Row steam Rally which I have visited in the past. This year I got my wife to go along with me to see what was going on.

One of the first things we saw was this steam lorry and engine

followed by this engine which was huge
There were the scale side engines like these two

along with this one
I've seen this in operation before where they saw a tree trunk into planks
the engine drives the saw with a belt

this was a cutie

one of the showmans engines

and a local one to me
What I did not show in the fist photo was the line of trucks the contractor had. Impressive to see that many. I'll show more from the show next week.

Rotherfield Murals

These are a few more murals from Fairmile Hospital I came across on the walls of the old Rotherfield Ward . I was interested in looking at the building because my father had once worked there  though I have to admit I doubt it looked like that when he worked in the place. You can see more in the link. Soon after the photos were taken the place was torn down and new housing now sits on the there.

Made to look like a picture

  Quite a tropical scene

Bit of an Irish theme going on here

 Tropical island and boat

A little bit of sunshine to brighten the day.
