The Garden

I never knew this street in Glastonbury existed till I noticed a plaque by the entrance, I just had to see what was down there.

This was the St Mary Magdalen Hospital then later the Royal Almshouses, they date back to before 1322 by 1958 they had become derelict. The town council and trustees gained permission from the charity commission to demolish part to build flatlets for old people (Beyond the far wall) and restored the garden and buildings on the right.

Thanks Brigitta, the garden width is only about 4 meters wide so was not easy to photograph how I wanted.

I deleted your other post, did not think you wanted two the same. A great place to visit though I still have to go round the abbey (been once). The Tor is a must if you go there, the views are astounding on a good day.

A lovely little garden, and I hope the pensioners are able to get out and enjoy it.

Billy Blue Eyes said...

I think they do, there is a gate leading to it.
