After the Floods

These are some photos I came across on my laptop and were taken after the flooding in 2012/13

I had been watching and taking photos of the floods when I heard a boat had sunk. A buoy marked where it was in the floods and by early 2013 the bow of the narrow boat could be seen.

Believe it of not it was one of three boats moored here, the far one a family were living in it, I even saw them wading through the floods to reach the boat. The two boats were moored right the centre one was too tight & sunk

Even the ones on the other side rode the flood and came through

You had to feel for the owners of the boat that was under water

You could see the whole thing under the water

The water had flooded the children's water feature and now it was covered in mud

You see the litter bin well that was under water , the restaurant on the opposite had water above the red life preserver you can see hanging on the wall and all the picnic tables were swept away

Right under the bridge to be caught up in the trees, no doubt many more went down river.

The boat I showed was re floated a few days later and removed, could not say what became of it. The floods were not the highest I have seen but came very close.

The Tichbourne Hachments

A few months ago I visited a church called St Andrews Titchbourne and was overwhelmed by the amount of  Funerary Hatchment's the church has this was on top of the other features it held

One of the first things I noticed was this embroidered mural of the last supper

 The coat of arms was another thing, it's dated 1735

 

 

 

 

 But it was these Funerary Hatchment's I spotted when walking in I noticed two to start with

 Then a third

 

They were the best I had come across yet

 

 All different people from the Tichbourne Family

 

  Going in the chapel there were two more, one on either end of the chapel. Don't think I had see that many in a church before.

A Road at Fairmile

Back in 2010 I started something I called the Fairmile Project, the idea was to record the development of an old asylum over to housing. One part of the side had a building which was one of the first to be demolished in it's place was being built the main show home for the site. The first footings you can see going in below and beyond was a field that that used to be used for grazing cattle in, what I did not realise it was going to have an access road built through it.

A month or so later I was on side and noticed an access road was being built

The road went in between two of the houses. I might add not that long after this photo was taken the right hand building was burn down by some nice little mother son. It was so bad it had to be torn down and rebuilt

Months later bollards where in and the grass had been sown

In 2012 the road was covered in asphalt for traffic and opened for business an that was how it stayed for a number of years

Come 2016 I had a wonder back up there as all the housesing had been sold, the road had been removed and laied to grass and now a footpath took it's place. What used to be a field was now a park

The Great Barn

 

The last panel in this series of the Ridgeway Mural shows the interior of the Great Barn in East Ilsley 

 Barns like this were built in villages to store grain for the winter. I've not been to the village so cannot tell you if it is still standing but I will find out

The Drone

A few weeks ago I was down at Fforest Fields Campsite and as it was a nice sunny day I thought a few photos would be in order from around the lake. While watching the swans I heard a noise, realising it was something flying I looked up to see if it was visible. After a few moments I spotted a drone and nearby the owner flying it.

Looking for the drone and spotted the owner

 The drone coming into land. I had a chat with him about flying it and he had been doing some views of the campsite. I left him and wandered off round the lake

and a couple of Canada Geese

 The swan looking majestic as only swans can

 The geese looking at me cautiously. I decided to leave them to swim around with out me bothering them and went off for a cup of tea

East Ilsley Mural

The next panel depicts the village of East Ilsley and shows the sheep for which the village was famous for. The Ridgeway for centuries was used as road and sheep were herded along it to the various markets in villages & towns, this was happening right up to the twentieth century. The mural itself has suffered not only from age but also some moron tagged it.
