The Hunting Lodge

This is the Hunting Lodge at Lodge Park which is owned by the National Trust. It is just that a hunting lodge which was built back in 1630 and is the only surviving deer course and grandstand which is what the lodge was used for.

Guests would stand either on the balcony or on the roof to watch the deer course which was a mile long, the start was way to the right of the picture and the finish line was just in front.

Behind the Bike Shed

I spotted this a while ago but only just managed to get a photo of this mural which is behind a bike shed at Cholsey Primary School. Could not get as close as I'd like but the zoom works and I was able to get these photos.

This on is my favourite. Taking part in Monday Mural

A Mad Bird

My wife told me about this bird that kept attacking the window today and when I got home I took this photo of the bird after hearing some pecking the window and he was sat on the fence opposite

He was a cute little fellow

Keeping an eye on what I was doing in the room. My wife said she took a few photos with her camera but it ran out of battery so borrowed mine.

She took a lot of photos of the bird

I think my wife showed me up with my own camera. Have a great weekend

The Marsh

Cholsey Marsh in the recent flooding. The Thames path runs through here around center photo and is under about two foot (60cm) of water

The Window

Many thanks for all your comments on yesterdays photo of the dove in the window. I thought you might like to see where it was. The window is an old church doorway on the south side of the Holy Trinity  Ardington Church. Rather than block it up they decided to put a window in it and this is the result. I think it was a good idea. You can see more of the church in my Blog

The old door now window is in the middle of the church.
Have a great day

Progress

Progress works its way relentlessly along the Great Western Railway at  Reading. Gone are the days of Steam which I fondly remember to be replaced by Diesel Trains now even they are being replaced by Electric Trains the gantry's of which you can see in the distance at Reading Station and even that has been replaced with a new one.

Floor Mosaic

Just lately I have been showing some photos from a place called Silchester which is an old Roman Town near Reading. Today I thought you would like to see something that was found there.
These mosaic floors were unearthed in one of the archeological digs there
 They are nearly complete floors
But I feel show a wonderful mosaic mural from 2000 years ago. They can be seen in Reading Museum. Taking Part in Monday Mural

The Boathouse

The Boathouse in Wallingford is a restaurant which has been converted from the original boathouse that you see here. As a youngster a lot of my friend has summer jobs here hiring out rowing boats and small motor launches. I felt it was a sad day when it closed but it is good to see it is still in use.

The photo shows the Thames lapping over into the patio, the restaurant had sandbags in front of the patio doors but escaped flooding.

Fogwatch Friday

Normally I would show a skywatch photo with a nice clear sky be it overcast or wet. Today I'm changing the rules a bit and giving you Fogwatch because that's what we have Thick Fog.

Yesterday looking out of the office window all you could see was this, all day I might add

This morning was not much better, I might add it's worse driving in it at night. worse thing is in the day idiots drive with no light on so you can't see them.

This is the view I had from my back door this morning, grim isn't

I should see this in the morning
and to show it is not all fog round the area all the time this was the lock on the canal at newbury on Sunday. Happy Skywatch everyone.
