Having a preen

Now this Red Kite comes and sits in the fir tree near my house (two doors down) they are one of the most successful reintroductions of  a bird the country has know and they were reintroduced not far from where I live. It has to be my favorite bird and I never cease to stop for a moment to watch them.

 Preening its feathers
 Looking around
and my attempt to catch it taking off. I think they are a majestic bird.

Bees on the Beans

One of the things we have on our patio is a few tubs in wich we grow runner beans and they attract bees who collect the pollen  and in doing so fertilize the plant.

Up in Flames

This happened a few years ago along the road from my house, the car had smoke coming out from under the bonnet (hood) stopped and the lady got out. within moments it looked like this.

The fire brigade came along and put the fire out though I don't think the car was good for much after.

 Have a good day

The Thames Valley Traction Engine club had it's club run on Saturday and the stop off was the Read Lion in Cholsey

The Tower

On the top of Glastonbury Tor you will find this tower which was part of a church built in the 15th century. It fell into disrepair after the dissolution of the monastery when the last abbot was hung on the Tor.

The Swarm

The other day one of the contractors asked it I had seen the bees outside on the container.  So I thought some photos were in order.

Turned out they were in the forklift slot on the storage container I used.

Seem to be a reasonable size swarm.

I used the zoom to get close

A couple of hours later they had flown off.
