Museum Visit

Thought I'd show a few photos I took on my way to the British Museum when my wife & I visited a few weeks ago

 Holbourn Town Hall

A blue plaque always makes me look

Bertrand Russell who I had heard of but never knew much more about him

A place I had heard about and laid empty for a long time

Made me smile seeing this place in the middle of London. Selling Scottish gifts to unsuspecting Tourists at no doubt a lot more than they would cost in Scotland

Not sure if they are still Boris Bikes now with the sponsor on them now

Loved the name of this place
 And the clock

The yard looked interesting now

Countdown clock on a Crossing

The tube station
 and the station itself.

Museum Mural

The other week my wife & I went to the British Museum not the best experience but I will tell you about that in another blog. I took photos of a lot of different murals so will be showing a few in the coming weeks. Fist was taken in the Egyptian section

Part of the exhibit you see walking in the room

I presume this is the Pharaoh on the throne

And this is the complete Mural

Highgate Fox

Urban foxes are becoming a common sight in our city's & towns though being some one from out in the country I don't come across them very often. Unlike their country cousins they tend to be a bit manky and covered in Mange. I have only ever seen one before while up  in one of the London suburbs and after walking round Highgate Cemetery on Monday was surprised to see this Vixen

She had just grabbed some food thrown out for her turned out the staff looked after her treating the poor thing for mange but in doing so it became rather tame and used to people around

Chewing quickly while watching the people nearby who were only a few meters away. Try that out in the country all you would see was a tail where it ran away

Heard a noise, the staff were chasing off the hungry magpies which steel the food

Need some more food. We left after this photo not wanting to frighten the poor thing more that it was already.

Oxford University Museum

I mentioned in the Blog on Oxford I would show the University museum that I shown and a little tour we took around it.  It's correct name is Oxford University Museum of Natural History  and it was built between 1855 -60, you can find it along Parks Road

This little pillar is just outside the entrance

This is the view you get going through the doors along with a couple of the Dinosaurs you can see in the Gallery

The Oxford Dodo, the head and feet on show are the most complete anywhere

The head of Trex

and the original

Tortoise

Crocodile or Alligator

This is part of the display in the Mammal Gallery

some of the statues you can see round the pillars in the museum with Darwin over looking the Central  hall

Not sure what George Stevenson did apart from inventing the Rocket (Train)

More Dinosaurs skulls

Looking down on the  gallery's
And a view of the Dinosaur Gallery with the ceiling on show

All these pillars you see are made from the different rocks you can find round the British isles

An original desk students worked from

A fossilized sea going creature

Dinosaur Eggs
You can read on the base of the pillar where the rock came from

The Museum recently had a refurbishment and the glass above cleaned which allows the place to light up. The one other place you can visit here  is the Pit Rivers and that is also well worth going round though on this occasion we did not have time
I'll leave you with a photo of what amazed me, the Victorian ironwork.

Entrance Mural

This is a small mosaic mural I spotted a the entrance to a church hall in Headington Oxford. Took me a while to realise it was a fish swimming through the weeds.
