I bought the Canon Powershot SX730 a few weeks ago & decided to try out the zoom. Now I have taken photos of the moon before with my old SX240 but they did not come out like these
The moon was out in the evening sky when I took these photos
You can clearly see the craters on this view
And more lower down
Don't think I ever noticed my photos this of the moon this clear before
This is a stitch of the last two
A week or so later I took the full moon in the night sky
Happy Skywatch

Wow!
Beautiful! They are very clear photos.
terrific captures.
These are awesome! The detail is amazing. I have a 100mm - 400mm tele zoom and I can't get this detail (without a lot of cropping, and then things get fuzzy).
Nice photos! I should get my lenses out more to explore the night skies with.
These photos are wonderful! Now I want to buy a new camera!
Wow, these are very nice indeed.
I found the same with my 50 - 500 I use, the compact sort of takes the micky
I'm sure you can buy one there
Wow, these are stunning. Well done Bill.
Brilliant shots!

Hi Bill, These are excellent moon shots. They are just not going to get much better than these! Congrats! Coincidentally I also purchased the Canon SX730 about a month ago and took it on a trip up to Alaska. Will be putting some of my pictures on the blog in the near future. I love the camera. I would compare the results with what I've gotten digiscoping in the last couple of years ... that would be attaching a camera to a spotting scope. The 40X zoom is really like looking through binoculars as far as the image is concerned. I have found that using a tripod at high zoom is very helpful. I also like the color the images provide ... very realistic! I will be looking forward to more of your posts here on Spuds Daily Photo. Have a great weekend! John
Look forward to seeing your photo's then. Must try it on a tripod sometime
