Newts under the Groundsheet

Last week my wife & I spent a few days at our caravan. As it was the end of the season I decided to take down the Awning. Once it was packed away I started to take up the groundsheets and came across some newts hiding under them. I wondered it they thought it was a good place to hibernate

The newts varied in size as you can see from the stones. The one above is about 30mm long

 Others were a little longer

I found around a dozen newts in various places some not far from each other

This little fellow was one of the bigger newts

It was not long before they all disappeared off somewhere else to hibernate

Amazing captures, particularly the one looking straight into the camera.
Great pics.

That is wild. In these parts you may not see newts under a ground cloth but you might see a snake or two.

That was quite a lot of newts in one place. Judging by their difference in size they would be different generations so I presume they breed very close to your caravan. Thank you as always for your kind and encouraging comments on my blog.

I bet they thought they had found the perfect spot.

They seem to pose for you. Poor little fellows without a roof over their heads now...

They must have been surprised to be disturbed!

Look like close relatives of our rough-skinned newts. (Photos here: http://rustyring.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-face-of-power.html.) Groggy, grumpy, just-woke-up expressions on their faces suggest you may be right about their intent.
