The Memorial Gardens
King George the V Memorial gardens are near the Royal Berks Hospital in Reading.
The Garden was created between 1835 & 1840 as part of a smart development at Eldon Square. It was taken over by Reading Corporation in 1944 and converted to a garden of Ease for the residents of Reading.
The statue in the garden is Rufus Daniel Issacs (1860 - 1935) first Marquis of Reading, Attorney General & Lord Chief Justice and Viceroy of India. It was carved by Charles Sargent Jagger and set up in New Delhi, in the late 1960's it was moved to Reading and set up in the gardens in 1971.

Greetings
Beautiful garden, beautiful pictures!
So gorgeous!
I've past it many times & though I should get some photos, this occasion I did.
I think the sun being out helped that day
One of the nicer parts of Reading
Hari Om
Very attractive spot - I had not made the Isaacs connection in my head so that was interesting reading! YAM xx
A very informative post. Really enjoyed it.
I'd never heard of him till I read the information board by the entrance
Thanks but they are not a patch on yours when it comes to being informative
That is a nice park for a stroll and an interesting history of the statue.
It's a small one so more of a place you can have some peace & quiet
Thanks for your nice comment on my blog, Bill! This looks like a very nice garden with a of of history behind it!
It is but it is only in recent years I realised it was there
