Poppy Fields Update

 

 This is a quick update on the new housing estate called Poppy Fields in our village, I was interested to see how the houses were progressing

This was taken a few days previous , it's an old Elderberry tree or bush more a weed that anything because the birds eat the berries and spread them. This one had been blown over and had been chine sawed up to clear it out of the way

 

You can see why it fell over it was rotten

So on to the estate where I found the place a hive of activity, last time I walked past they had only laid the concrete, now the block work was waiting for laying

Last time I saw these excavators they were parked up for the weekend now they were all working with more doing similar out of sight

This covering may well be the damp course waiting of the concrete to be poured, but then it could be just coving it from the frost we had last night

Last the entrance to the estate where they are well on the way to finishing the houses. On the way home I stopped off a the sales office and asked when the first houses were due to be opened as show homes. I was told January  2022 so I'll post my next update then.

Then place it over the clematis you are growing. I still have to put  top on this yet and make a birdhouse to go on the top. I'll post a photo when I have made it.

St James Bix

 

 

This week the church explorer visits St James Bix, a Victorian church that replaced the older church when it started falling down. Click on the link to look around.

Red Sky in the Morning

 

In the UK Red Sky in the morning  follows with Shepherds Warning meaning look out for rain. Sometimes it follows other it is more of  a grim day. On this particular morning I had gone downstairs to make a cup of tea and get some breakfast for my wife. I looked out the kitchen window and saw colour in the sky

Rather that go outside I grabbed my phone and went upstairs to be greeted by this sight looking out of the bedroom window, the sun just showing the sky colour

 I grabbed my camera to get another shot

By the time I had finished breakfast  (in bed) it was all over. Red sky or not it was  a beautiful morning  which in fact got better

A couple of hours later I was miles away visiting a church from which I took this photo of the countryside towards Tetsworth, you can see the church spire where it is (future Visit)

Garden Obelisk

 

 I mentioned to the New Darma Bums in a comment that I had been making garden Obelisks for climbers to grow in, they mentioned they hoped I would show one in my blog. I think I can do better and show you how they are made well at least how I made mine.

 

This is what I made and it is all recycled apart from the screws, even the nails were reused on this one. The bird feeder on to was one I had discarded until my wife remembered it. I found the bottom was going rotten so I took it all apart and fitted a new one, the moulding on the base was made using a router.

 

This is what the Obelisk is made from an old trellis fence which I had stored. The local council charges you to dispose of them because they are considered fencing which is DIY. It dost £1.5 $2 to dispose of it at the dump. If you had a fence made of them it can be quite expensive to get rid of I tended to give them away free if someone needed them

 

You need to break the fence up and remove the nails

 

The fit the parts together in the way you want, I do not use any plans or drawings for this it all comes out of my head

 

Once you have everything you need to assemble it together to see if they fit

I also made  a base in a similar way to give it a little extra hight

 

You need to give the a coat of Garden paint

Fit it back together

Then place it over the clematis you are growing. I still have to put  top on this yet and make a birdhouse to go on the top. I'll post a photo when I have made it.

Bonfire Night Sky

 

I did like the look of the sky on  Friday the 5th November Bonfire Night, not that we celibate it any more in our house but you can hear fireworks going off around the area though I thought this year not so much. While wandering around the garden I took a few skywatch photos 

Trees always look good setting the sky off

and the sun shining through foliage 

Behind me a few wispy clouds in the sky

Turning left over next doors roof a few more could be seen in the sky

Then from my Patio I spotted some skytrails forming a kiss and the Redkite photo bombing as usual

Short walk to Poppy Fields

 

 This was a short walk I took a few weeks ago to the Poppy fields housing development to see how it was progressing. I was hoping there would be at least a completed house to look at as the work had been going on since the beginning of the year. 

I walked on down the road and turned up into the lane where the estate was being built. I passed a paddock and through the gate spotted this handsome fellow watching me  

As you look at the photos you might want to refresh yourself with how it looked the last  time I came along by the estate back in August. This was not here back then

and looking through the contractor entrance you could see there was quite a lot going on

Big pile of rubble here which look like used bricks and blocks for recycling though I would not put it past them burying them around so when you did what garden you have you come across them

 

This is clearly new and not here last time. I am glad to see they constructed a proper path for the residents 

 

This part skirts around the estate and has been landscaped over to the right, I expect trees to be planted as well

then built to damp-course level

I took a photo of this house last time when it was at damp-course level and they were laying the floor , since then it has moved on with the walls being built

 

To the right you can see where the road runs though the estate

 

Further along the houses which are having roof trusses fitted

I finished here at the entrance to the estate where you can see a house where the rood times will be going on soon.

I will return in a month or so to see how it is progressing then.
