Makeing Bread

 

 I took this photo of Wessex Mill back in 2009. At the time I did not realise they sold bread flour till I started seeing bags in some of the shops I visited not did I think I would be making my own bread one day. Like many other people I make my own bread and have spoiled my family with it to the extent we do not buy sliced bred any more.

Many people have started making bread during the present crisis we are having and the flour mill has been hard pressed at times in that the shop is shut and even on line it is only open at certain times so sometimes Flour is hard to get but in general it gets sent with in a few days of you can get it from Local suppliers.

I don't make my bread by Hand I use a bread maker which is just a case of putting in the correct ingredients and turning it on for the time required. Best thing is that Panasonic even give you a recipe book which is easy to follow  

This is a selection of the flour I use, the come in various sizes from 1kg, 1.5kg and even 10kg and we have bout a couple of bags that size when we could not get culinary flour in the shop. Don't forget the yeast for the bread either though I know you can make sour-doug

 This how the loaves come out and will last the four of us around a day. This is onion bread normally I mare rolls with this flour rather than a loaf

 This is Half & Half, IE half strong white flour and half wholemeal

And this one is a six seed loaf. In the photo showing the bags you will notice a malted loaf and Hovis Granary both make nice loaves but I think the one my wife & I like most is the Sunflower. The French bread four makes a nice light loaf and we have made baguettes with it though next time we will be trying to make rolls. 

Like these which are the made using latest flour we have used Tomato and Garlic.

Now all I have to do now is see how well they go with Cheese Burgers

St Peter Great Haseley

 

 This week the Church Explorer visit St Peter Great Haseley a church which is full of history, unfortunately it was shut when I visited but I returned a week or so later and got photo of of the inside which I will show next week.

Crescent Moon and Mist

 

Not taken any new sky photos this week so taking you back to Wales. 

While taking the dog out for an evening stroll I took this shot of the moon rising over Aberedw Hill

I cropped the photo to show the crescent moon

The next morning we went out for a walk up the hill, a couple of weeks a go I shoed some photos from lover down, here we are near the top of the path looking down a gully

Looking between a gap in the treeline near the path back down the hill. It was time to go back for breakfast.

October Garden

 

 We are now into October, the weather has gotten cooler and of late wetter with the first of the winter (or autumn) storms coming in. I have to admit the weather changed very quickly towards the end of September and now we head towards winter by way of autumn. Over the weekend it rained quite a lot and on Sunday morning I looked out the back door an noticed this trug which was nigh on full of water I did not think it had rained that much then remembered it had rained a couple of days previous

 I measured the depth of the water and it was 5" deep, a lot of water

Last week I cut the grass and over Friday night it rained on the Saturday as it was not raining we started to tidy up the garden, The californica rose had grown to over three meters high so that was cut back to a ore reasonable hight, no doubt it will sono grow to that hight again

At the bottom of the garden the geraniums that grew here were cut back reviling a rose that was almost hidden by the plants

The rose on the Arbour was cut back letting you get inside again

The raised beds looked very sad with few remaining leaks I had planted around the beans now able to grow. The empty bed will have broad beans planted in a few days

The cuttings from the plants were placed in these trugs before being put in the bin for composting and the green bags in a previous photo. They were empty on Saturday evening. Overnight it rained and in the morning this is what was in the bins, nearly 3" of water so over the last few days we have had around 5" of rain and yes some places have been flooded.

The one thing that benefited was the pond and when I cleared out some of the rubbish at the bottom a frog jumped out of the net when I tipped the debris out near the pond then jumped back in when I went to catch it. I told my wife who was overjoyed we had a frog, she had been worried they were not coming back as we had not seen one for  a year

My wife came down to look for the frog and spotted it with it's head poking up in the plants. We were very happy so see it and hoped for a few more in the spring.

Inside St Mary the Virgin

 

Last week the Church Explorer took you to St Mary the Virgin in Great Milton were I showed photos of the church and churchyard. While I was there I read a notice on the door informing everyone the church was open on Sunday between certain hours well I returned the following week and took photos of not only that church but St Peter in Great Hasley (next weeks blog) and the church at Little Milton which was locked when I visited it years ago. The blogs will be published over three weeks. I was amazed how the church looked inside and all I can say is please visit the link and have a look.

Clouds at Sunset

 

A couple weeks ago  on a Friday evening while coming in from the garden I noticed the clouds and the sun reflection off them, bit late to post but I took some photos for a future blog.

The sun had gone down a little more by the time I picked up my phone so the colour was going

But the clouds gave a ray of hope

Last of the Roses

 

Well you might have noticed I was missing last week, I took a few days break, I showed where I was in Skywatch Friday.  I feel we all need cheering up with some flowers this week, my garden is beginning to shut down for the winter but we still have a few roses cheering the place up

 Could not tell you the name of this one my wife grew from a stick she was given

 All I can tell you it smells amazing

 This one I lady Hamilton and is another one with a beautiful perfume

 Forgotten the name of this one which grows by the patio

 A beautiful white rose which I should know the name of

I do love this pink one growing by a trellis

I think this is a Nemesia Wisley Vanilla which has a beautiful sent in the evening

 Last of all a Rudbeckia which we were lucky to have as we found slugs were eating it before we sorted a way to stop them
