Three weeks down the road

While going to the shops in the week for supply's I stopped off and took a photo down the road on  the three weeks we have had of lock down

Week one after the first week of lock down, I stopped near the recreation ground entrance and took a photo. The road was empty of people and cars. Normally over to the right commuters park their cars and walk to catch a train, the footpath normally has people walking along it. The only thing is a car in the distance and the owner most likely lies nearby
Week two and the sky is a little clearer though you cans see we have had a shower
Week three taken by the place we call the Forty, the cars on the right belong to people living nearby, the only thing out of place is the truck in the distance by the shop I am going to, there are workmen digging the pavement.

I will finish with this photo of the Conker Tree on the Forty which I took this morning after picking up a prescription from the Chemist, I thought the tree looked so vibrant and thought with the lack of traffic it has not looked better. The tree is over 100 years old and where nigh on every child in the village has tried to knock conkers out of it.

Day in the life of a Runner Bean

I hope everybody is coping with this period in our lives. I have been showing some of what I was getting up to in the garden. Today I will show what has been happening in the greenhouse. A while ago I planted some seeds to germinate in some propagators on the windowsill till the weather warmed up enough for them to go in  the greenhouse. One of the plants I sowed from seed was a runner bean. We love them and have grown them a few times but this time it was the first time I tried growing from seed.

I planted the seeds early last week and on the 9th I noticed some of the dwarf runner beans starting to sprout

Come Easter Sunday you could see them popping out of the compost

Above the day before on the 11th I spotted a Runner Bean popping up
On the 12th a couple of leaves were appearing in the pots this was around 9:45 in the morning

Around 12 hours later more runners could be seen and leaves were appearing on some of them

The one on the right I could sworn I saw moving around as it grew, and more  More Dwarf runners were seen as well
24 hours later this morning the growth on the runner beans was clear to see
The Dwarf runners were doing well as well
Remember the carrots I put in Bottles well they are coming on well
A while ago I planted these Cucumbers and tomatoes
Well this is how they look now in the greenhouse though one of the cucumbers went a little lime over night because it was near an open louvre, well a little while under the propagator it was back on track again
Happy Gardening, I think my dad would be chuffed to see what I have been up to because when I lived at home he knew I did not like it. I'll bring more next week

St Magarets Chapel Chapel

This week the Church Explorer shows you the St Magarets Chapel Chapel, a little place of peace and tranquillity which I forgot about. I felt as it was Easter I should show a religious place and even though it is small it stands head an shoulders above some of the other churches I have visited.

Happy Easter

More From The Garden

I hope you all are keeping up your spirits at this bad time. Like everyone we are trying to stay in going out as little as possible and only going out for essentials. We make out own amusements and the garden is top of the list. A couple of weeks ago I showed you around my Garden where you would have seen our greenhouse.  This week I'll show what we get up to in it and what we have planned next in our garden.

The Greenhouse was built last year for use this year and I have been trying to grow plants from seeds.
These were started in the house on the windowsill. Here on the top shelf are some sweet peas with parsley growing in the square pots

Above on the floor are a couple of Hydrangeas which were wintered in the greenhouse away from the frost, last year the got badly cropped by it. Outside you can see a pile of soil and wheelbarrow the cause of my back problem in digging a pond, it is a little better now.
Right my first experiment in growing tomato seeds and chillies, not sure how successful as I am a bit disappointed in them, last year the chillies were growing really well

More seed growing here. My feeling is I planted them too soon I managed to grow tomatoes from seed last year. Like I said this year is all an experiment with what I grow

These are more plants grown from seed on the top shelf
These are carrots that were grown in a seed tray the potted in old plastic bottles another little experiment to see how they grow

The next project was something my wife thought we should try, raised vegetable beds, the left hand photo shows how they came in a box of parts, I confess my son helped me build them and my wife dug out the area where they would go
This is the finished bed assembled ready to go in place
As we bought two here they are side by side full of the soil you saw through the greenhouse window and compost ready for planting. We will be planting Runner beans and leeks in the other. The bottled carrots you saw in the greenhouse will go around the edges of one of the beds. That is it for this week I will keep you updated on how things go with the growing.
Keep safe everyone

Church Trusts

This week I have written a piece of one of the church trusts websites called Explore Churches which is attributed to The National Churches Trust who look after churches in need of help. I do not belong to any of the various trusts but to support the work they do and was asked to do a blog because I found out I had inadvertently used the avatar they had. I must admit I changed the colour to suite my blog and  the business card I leave in churches. You will find links in the blog to some of the churches that I have visited that can be found on their map. Next week I will do a piece on another trust  who look after redundant churches. Please have  a look at the the blog and their website
 Until my next blog

Magnolia sky

I'll finish the week with a shot of some magnolia bushes something we have a few of that are grown in Pots or in the ground

This beautiful one was at the local Garden Centre & I took it on our last visit before it closed for the problem we are all going through at the moment. I really miss going there and will be glad when I can go along and visit again

This one is out the front of out house and is in a large tub. We bought it many years ago as a little shrub but it grew and grew to what it is now.

This is our favourite magnolia it has also been planted in the ground , the hole being dug and loads of ericaceous compost added around the root ball, we hope it will be come acclimatized to the surrounding soil.
That's it from my garden this week, I'll be back next week with more
