Watching the Sheep

While at the caravan site in Wales we stared at last month my wife & I took the dogs for a walk along the side of the hill over looking the site. The path here runs along the middle of the hill and is an easy walk. This part is near a place called Alison's Seat and a a few years ago the trees (Conifers) were cut down and new hardwood treed ones replanted

The walk looks a little bare now with no tree covering

But you can see the new trees that were planted are now taking hold

We heard a do barking behind us and looked across to see the flock of sheep running around

The Farmer's dog was moveing the sheep
The dog was doing a lot of running to bring the sheep around

A tad out of focus but you can see the dog is getting the work done

The Farmer helps out with his Quad bike. The were moved to another field nearby for new grazing

We headed off back to the caravan for a cup of tea and passed some rural art someone had made

The Boiler House

This was the Bolierhouse at Fair Mile Hospital in Cholsey I had written a blog about in Forgotten Fairmile and needed to come back to take some photos to finish it off. Ended up doing it twice because of the overcast sky on one day. If you click on the link you can read my blog on it

Not the best day with the sky's looking how they are

Looked even worse the other way

Next day was better with superb blue sky

Had to make lighting adjustment due to the building on the left.

and the other way again looking a bit better with blue sky. Still not totally happy but will do to finish  off my blog. I might add I have been up the chimney and there is an amazing view from up there.

Best not look down, make you dizzy

Look out instead

The Tay Railway Bridge

This was a photo I showed back in 2013 as a Wordless Wednesday but I thought I would go back and show some more photos of the bridge . The original bridge was started in 1871 and opened in 1878.In the winter of 1879 a storm was blowing at right angles to the bridge when a train crossed late in the evening the bridge collapsed and the train disappeared into the River Tay killing 75 people.
The new bridge was built in 1883 and finished in 1887 and is still as you see it today

This is the Tay Railway Bridge seen from the Dundee Law

Going down to road level you can see the new supports of the bridge, the small stubby ones are the original bases for the bridge supports, the scaffolding you see is for maintenance being done on the bridge

Here we look at  the section over the road where it joins the station outside Dundee

Looking at the bridge again from the footpath beside the River Tay

Two of the original bases for the bridge supports

Last look at the bridge going across the Tay

The Day After

The Day after the visit fro Ophelia we went for another walk as the day was sunny and looked fine for a walk back up the hill

The lake looked still & calm
The clouds passed by unconcerned
Part way up we stopped to take in the view
and half way along stopped to take in the view of the valley
Finaly up on the hill a look over Aberedw Hill
and back along the side by FFynnonau Common

On the way down it was past this lone tree
Have a great weeknd

Windy Day Walk

So last week I showed photos of the sky when Hurricane Ophelia visited, after the sky cleard The wind blew and the trees got blown around

So we decided to go for a walk up the nearby hill passing by these willows being thrown around

But it was not so bad walking up the hill and the view was worth the effort

The sheep below did not seem bothered and the gorse  even less
The day turned out very plesent apart from the wind. I'll show more from the hill another day

Visit from Ophelia

Tuesday we had a visit from Hurricane Ophelia and as a prelude the sky was red from the dust whipped up from the Sahara, this is what we saw in Wales

The next day after the storm the sky looked like this

A beautiful end to the Storm

Happy Skywatch
