I've seen some remarkable creations masquerading as "lions" in church carvings. This one at least looks as though the carver might have seen a lion or a picture of one. Then I notice his ears!
There's something...amazing, I guess, about seeing art in the world. It reminds me of all that even the simplest among us can do. Especially when I think of my own attempts to carve wood...

It took me a few seconds because I was searching for a whole lion's body, but his face is much better than that:)

The hat is the crown on the lions head, like on the royal coat of arms
