The Entertainer

I noticed this guy entertaining  the shoppers with is songs in Newbury on Sunday Morning so I felt he had to be recorded for my blog
When I started this blog I was unsure how well it would do but on Tuesday it reached 15000 views  so I'm well pleased with the response so  May I say a big thank you to all those who follow me and who have visited my blog you have encouraged me to carry on with it

The Bomb Store

This is a view of part of the old RAF Harwell site, the road you see is part of the airfield perimeter road and just past the grass stripped area is the old Bomb Store where the bombs were kept in bunkers during the war. When the UKAEA took over it was used to store stuff like old radioactive material. When it was realised what was there it was cleared and decontaminated, to top that the building you see is the local school so great care had to be taken. The stripped area is where a archaeological dig was done and Bronze age round houses were found along with a roman building.

A few months later it looked like this
This was the beginnings of a housing estate that was being built, I meant to go back at intervals to update the  progress  but never did. I noticed the houses were going up from the office I work out of so I popped up for an update and this is how it looks now.

Barrel Head

Last of my murals from Glastonbury and one I came across  on my last day at the town, It's along an ally which runs past the church which is why I could only take the photo from this angle. Beats me the meaning.

Building the Bridge

Back in 1993 a new By-Pass was built round Wallingford to relieve the amount of traffic that was going through the town. I felt this work had to be recorded so I set out to photograph as much as I could so started the seeds of my photographing what went on in my area.

The photo shows one of the bridge sections being lifted into place

Here you can see them lifting one of the last sections in place. The last parts were done at night in freezing conditions. You can see the whole story in my Blog here

Breaking Dawn

The Bell

The Bell at Aldworth the best pub I know where you can get real ale. Famous for being the first to charter concord for the pub trip and getting the concord clubs back up as they missed out. The pub has been in the same family for the last 300 years. On the right is the village well.
Might add your truly was on the flight.

Smoke over Sidney

Today I'm going to show a couple of photos taken by someone else my friend Dave Barber who who started me off into SLR photography by letting me borrow his camera way back in the late 1970s. I used to work with Dave back at Oxford Instruments before he emigrated with his family to Australia. He is still a keen photographer and quite regularly send me some of his work just to show he is still better than me.
The two photos show the smoke blowing over the area he lives and comes from 150 miles away.

It's hard to believe this is smoke and not a storm cloud

The temp is over 30c and more than 200 homes have been lost in this. My thanks to David for letting me show his photos

This young lady is getting nowhere on the bike but she is doing it to raise money for charity and yes I did pop a quid in the bucket.

Taken with the phone. Have a good weekend

Clouds over the Wheat Field

This is a field just outside the village I live. Oxfordshire County Council want to put a gravel pit here so far the village and surrounding villages and towns have resisted it and long may they do so. The photos are stitch photos so click on the photo to see and enlarged version.

This looks towards Wallingford with clouds showing signs of rain

Looking back to the place I took the last photo which is about the center of the photo.

Bit of a different shot today, a stormtrooper riding a jetski well he's of a video game at the Insert Coin show a few years back.
Have a great weekend

Morning and Evening

These were taken from the back door of my house. The skytrail heads towards the Bristol Channel and is the flightpath from LHR

At dusk the trails turn pink. I used to watch Concorde fly over on this path every evening at the same time

The Garden

I never knew this street in Glastonbury existed till I noticed a plaque by the entrance, I just had to see what was down there.

This was the St Mary Magdalen Hospital then later the Royal Almshouses, they date back to before 1322 by 1958 they had become derelict. The town council and trustees gained permission from the charity commission to demolish part to build flatlets for old people (Beyond the far wall) and restored the garden and buildings on the right.

Some Murals

No macros this week as the one I thought of showing was from work and you would be wondering what it was so I thought I'd show some Murals from Glastonbury

Most people would call it graffiti  but now it is take more like art though someone has been putting a tag around the place now

This one is in a building in a park

This is the one I like for some reason  though it has been replaced by something else now which I will take next time I am there.
