The last mural I'm showing from Lacock abbey is in a room called the Chaplain,s room you can read about it's use in the information below.
The mural is over in the corner and probably partly damaged at some time by the pipe put in the wall, it also looks to have been covered over and now been uncovered again. Can't help wonder is there are any more to be found in this room.
Taking Part in Monday Mural
Ha Bill. By the word Chaplin I think about a filmstar and not a chaplain but as english is not my native language perhaps I understand it wrong. And yes modern adjustments to old buildings destroy a lot of history. Thats for sure.

I can't recall which California mission I visited that had etchings in a wall, which was built in the late 1700s. There's an artist in every crowd, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteSo much of church-based art has been chipped off, white washed, or plastered over, it's amazing that any of it survives. Thanks for taking us on this tour. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteSad to see the pipework's damage to what might have been.
