A Walk after Christmas

I decided to take a walk down to the river just after Christmas as we drew near the New Year, I knew we had had a lot of rain and wondered if it had flooded

This was as near as I could get on Ferry Lane, the Thames had clearly risen a lot flooding the meadows and lane.

Zooming in on the Thames you could see it flowing through fast where the scum was in the centre

I took a panoramic of Cholsey Marsh, from a line across the lane you could see the water had been further up but had receded a little

I headed back along the lane passing this meadow which once held dairy cattle for the old hospital, a sign now telling you it was a nature reserve. From what I could see a Dog walk where inconsiderate dog owner let their dog poop for others to walk in as I witnessed from the person who you might be able to make out in the left of the photo

Nearby a path leads to the old hospital which has been converted into housing

I carried on along the lane past the old Goods entrance to the hospital, the place a far cry as to what looked like 10 years ago.

  2. Nice series of photos! It seems that you, too, have had lots of rain - things look plenty moist!

  3. Lovely walk there. It looks quite a bit like here, gray skies and lots of rainy puddles and overflowing streams.

  4. The ground is saturated everywhere. It isn't going to take much more rain before we see a lot more flooding.

  5. We also went for our first walk of 2021 and on New Years Day in a nearby park area. The river and canal we walked past were not significantly higher from recent rains and snow melt. Thanks for taking us along on your first walk.
