The Tichbourne Hachments

A few months ago I visited a church called St Andrews Titchbourne and was overwhelmed by the amount of  Funerary Hatchment's the church has this was on top of the other features it held

One of the first things I noticed was this embroidered mural of the last supper
The coat of arms was another thing, it's dated 1735

But it was these Funerary Hatchment's I spotted when walking in I noticed two to start with
 Then a third

They were the best I had come across yet

All different people from the Tichbourne Family

Going in the chapel there were two more, one on either end of the chapel. Don't think I had see that many in a church before.

  1. Pardon my ignorance, but maybe because I am not British and know little of heraldry, I had to google "funerary hatchment." Thanks for getting me interested through this fine post.

  2. Great that these arms still exist. Perhaps longer then their family names. Who knows.

  3. I had to look up Funerary Hatchment to understand exactly what that is. What an interesting find!

  4. These are not the sort of things that one sees in a church here. Beautiful!
