A is for Aston Rowant


Aston Rowant is a small village in Oxfordshire near the M4 and along the road to Chinnor. The village s mentioned in the Domesday Book and the SS Peter and Paul parish church dates back to around 1100 AD and still has a couple of walls dating back to then. At one time the village was in Buckinghamshire but changed in the 1970's with boundary changes.It also used to have a railway station about half a mile away that was on the Watlington and Princes Risborough Railway but that closed in 1961 now the village sits quietly off the B4009

    Has the village been used for filming anything - that view look familiar and I don't think I've been there. Of course with my brain I could just be muddling it up with somewhere else :).

    What a lovely little place. I was in England last summer (for the first time) and visited Jane Austen's former home in Chawton. The stone wall/style here reminds me of it.
