Aston Rowant is a
small village in Oxfordshire near the M4 and along the road to Chinnor.
The village s mentioned in the Domesday Book and the SS Peter and Paul parish church dates back to around 1100 AD and still has a couple of walls dating back to then.
At one time the village was in Buckinghamshire but changed in the 1970's
with boundary changes. It also used to have a railway station about half
a mile away that was on the Watlington and Princes Risborough Railway but that closed in 1961 now the village sits quietly off the B4009

Looks a beautiful place, Bill. It's not an area I know but lanes like this are where I like to walk.
ReplyDeleteLooks a peaceful little place.
ReplyDeleteHello fellow A-Z participant! I've never heard of it but it looks like a lovely place! Looking forward to more posts! Life Diet Health (A-Z 684)
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of this little place. Nice photo. :) So lush and green compared to where I live!
ReplyDeleteHas the village been used for filming anything - that view look familiar and I don't think I've been there. Of course with my brain I could just be muddling it up with somewhere else :).

What a beautiful village. I'd enjoy exploring there.
ReplyDeleteNice! Makes me want to cycle down that lane (on an antique single-speed bike, of course!).
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely shot of this peaceful scene!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little place. I was in England last summer (for the first time) and visited Jane Austen's former home in Chawton. The stone wall/style here reminds me of it.
ReplyDeleteYour photo and the area are truly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Bill, are you blogging from the UK?
ReplyDeleteI'll surely come back to read your posts every now and then :)
I've been dreaming of going back to the UK. If you have the chance to visit my page, I've scheduled to post something from your part of the world for several letters of the alphabet. I think I have one scheduled for "D" from Scotland and for "W" from the UK itself :)

When I come across a post like yours today, Bill, I am so grateful for the Internet. I would not have ever known nor seen a village that was mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful view from the village.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo and a grand way to begin the A to Z.
ReplyDeletePleasant and peaceful!
