The Hunting Lodge
This is the Hunting Lodge at Lodge Park which is owned by the National Trust. It is just that a hunting lodge which was built back in 1630 and is the only surviving deer course and grandstand which is what the lodge was used for.
Guests would stand either on the balcony or on the roof to watch the deer course which was a mile long, the start was way to the right of the picture and the finish line was just in front.
Taking Part in Our World Tuesday
So they hunted the deer on that little course ... doesn't seem fair to me, even though it is a beautiful picture of a most interesting building.

I can imagine it in its prime with landscaping and people. Now it looks as if the home is looking out and remembering through sad eyes.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and wonderful history for OWT ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely house!
ReplyDeleteI love visiting National trust properties but have never been here. One to look out for.

ReplyDeleteGolly, I somehow wasn't expecting the vista in the second shot - wonderful contrast Bill. Great offerings for the day. YAM xx
And I wonder how much that would fetch on the open market! Nice looking place.

ReplyDeleteNice house but I'm not sure about the deer course - doesn't sound very fair.
ReplyDeleteI would not mind that as a summer residence.....
