L is for Lock

The lock is to the right in the distance and is on the Kennet in Newbury. To the left is the river which over flows from the canal via a weir further up from the lock.

  1. What a beautiful place! I've never seen such a small lock. The locks on our local rivers are huge--to allow tugs and barges to make passage. Wonderful! :-) Nice "L" post. :-)

    1. Narrowboats used the Canals but they are a bit bigger when you are near them. The photo was taken with a cameraphone not my usual camera I take with me.

    2. I would be interested in the history of the lock and the types of boats that use it. I assume that it has been there a long time?
