A walk around the garden

This week I though a change was needed so we will have a walk around the garden again

This are is new, we only dug the ground and planted it back in April

The pond has now been here over a year and my wife was overjoyed to find we had newts and dragonfly nymphs in there.

This part has been evolving over the past few years and now is a well stoked flower bed

This beautiful Clematis grows in the flowerbed

Tucked away behind the flower beds you will find this little cosy area where we quite often have our coffee.

More Welsh Skys

This week I though I would show some Welsh sky's I took when I was down there  the other week, face it I cannot help but take them when they look so good. Photos were taken on my iPhone

Always on the look out for Skywatch I looked back at the hillside

I could see the moon

The sun giving a halo behind the cloud

Finally a look at the bigger picture

No lets take  look at a bigger one still with a panoramic

Fforest Wood

A couple of weeks ago I took you all on a walk up the hill near were we stay in Wales, on the first occasion we took the quicker way down which is down a steep incline across the hillside I notice the remaining part of Fforest Wood as some damage from the winds we had during the winter

Over the past few years the hillside has been cleared of all the old fir trees that were growing here being replaced by native hardwood trees. The wood you see here is the remaining part of the original woods

Zooming in the damage was quite evident

The next day we went up the hill and came down another route not quite as steep

As you stand beside the damaged trees you can see what the gales have done blowing over the trees like matchsticks

By the way the path we too came under some of the fallen trees

The trees had come up with their shallow roots

Looking from further on you can see the trees from further up the hillside some of which that have fallen over the path we came on

The trees further down a tangled mess

At least new life can be seen in the hillside ferns with bluebells popping their head through the leaves.

Rainbow Sky

A change of plan from what I had intended to post this week. Over the past few days we have had a serious amount of rain but it cleared during the day which was nice. Last night it rained but had cleared by the morning and the sun came out so my wife & I set about clearing the front garden. It clouded over around 15.30 and I took the opportunity to get some photos.

This looks east and there were some heavy looking clouds there

Looking south over the trees it was still dark

Looking west at least there was blue sky showing. It did rain a while later but soon stopped.

The rain came down again around 19.20 and my wife said to me look outside and I saw this beautiful rainbow

I though I had to check it out from the bedroom so rushed up there and well it was truly beautiful a Double Rainbow to brighten your day.

A little Project

I left you with question a couple of weeks ago as to what I was going to make with this wood. My next door neighbour had been getting the roof of his garage fixed and the chippy who was doing it was someone I knew well, he asked if I wanted any of the left over sheet he had been using and I though I could make something with one of the left over pieces so this is what I used it for. It was going to be a small dovecote

The wood is sterling board (Oriented strand board OSB) which is reconstituted wood. I discovered  while making the dovecote that this was not the best wood to work with is I will not be using it again

It needed cutting in to the shapes I wanted to use

Most of it was cut into various shapes

Then a couple of pieces painted

The next stage was to fit it all together,

add the roof and make some sides

I also put a door in one piece

This was nearly finished as I had to drill holes in one side for the birds to go in and then paint it

There you go all painted and fitted in place, if you look in the background you can see another I made a couple of years ago for my wife's Birthday. That is not the end of this either my wife has decided she would like another to go out the front of the house. I'm not sure if birds will nest in this one though we have had blue tits nesting nesting in the other and raising young. We will just have to see what happens.

Assumption BSV Beckley

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Beckley which is north east of Oxford is a church I decided to visit more or less on a whim. The nice thing about the visit is that it was open so if you follow the link you will see how it looks inside.

Hillside Sky

Following on with what I showed on Tuesday, these are a few of the views I saw form the hillside

Looking across from the path we were walking along

Which was this looking back along it

 The rolling hillside

A panoramic shot which Google photos put together makes the whole view look amazing
