The Xmas Bridge
Remember my X is for Xmas post showing the bridge that was being demolished well this is what it used to look like.

If you look you can see one side is wider (left) that is because when Brunell built the GWR it was broad guage (wide track). When the line was widened to what you see now the lines were a standard guage which was narrower. The darker side is the newer line.

ReplyDeleteIn the top photo, each side is a different colour. Did the right side have something over the bricks?

DeleteI guess it's what they call progress but sometimes you just have to wish they'd leave things alone or restore sympathetically. Shame.
